Pre-production is an early stage of any project, including commercials, music videos, short films, and feature films. This crucial step defines how efficient, organized and, ultimately, how successful the final production stage will be.
The process can be overwhelming even for the seasoned producer. It requires knowledge of many facets of production, as well as an ability to prevent potential crises down the line.
Completing this stage means the cameras are ready to roll.

Concept Art & Storyboard
Having a great idea for a film is a wonderful thing but translating that for others isn't always an easy task without high-quality concept art and detailed storyboards.
We are lucky to have some incredible talent available within the studio that can work with you to realise your ideas and to help pitch or promote your production in a professional and highly polished way.
Casting, Crew & Auditions
We always have an extensive, talented and professional local crew available to use and have many contacts throughout the country.
From interns and runners to experienced makeup artists, camera operators, cinematographers, editors, foley artists and colourists; we can always find who you need.
Locations
With a number of adaptable, varying and interesting locations that are always available to us around 3studio and the local area, we also have extensive knowledge and contacts within the film industry who can find the location you need for your shoot both locally and throughout the UK.
Equipment
At 3studio we can accommodate any size of production requirement, whether it's making use of our impressive range of in-house equipment or sourcing equipment from one of our many friends at rental houses and our suppliers, we can advise and supply or find whatever you might need.
Visual Effects
Working on visual effects (VFX) has traditionally taken place during post-production, but with the advent of Virtual Production; full-scale VFX now often happens in pre-production.
With custom-built hardware and industry-standard VFX software and engines, we can accommodate productions of all sizes and also be equipped to work remotely with other production departments and/or teams anywhere in the world.
Set Design & Build
At 3studio we have a studio space that is capable of comfortably housing large sets or a number of smaller sets.
We can work with you to design and build the sets you require as well as develop computer-generated sets for virtual production.
We have a small number of high-quality stage flats always available to easily create spaces and can supply additional flats on demand.
We also have numerous stage props, practical lights and furniture items that can always be used if suitable for your production.
Props
As well as an ever-expanding selection of props from basic to rare and interesting, we also design and manufacture custom props in-house.
We have over 20 years of experience in the design and creation of extremely high-quality, hero and stunt film props that can stand up to any resolution of camera equipment.
With our industrial-grade equipment and extensive, in-house maker space we are able to prototype, design, produce and even duplicate incredibly detailed, unique props in record time.
We also have many years of experience and a range of contacts that can assist in sourcing rare or unique real-world items and replicas.
Costumes
Our staff have worked with sourcing costume items, designing and creating high quality, incredibly detailed costumes for many years and have the skills, knowledge and contacts to obtain whatever your production may need.
Using our incredible maker space we are also able to design, manufacture and duplicate costume items, fantasy or sci-fi armour, helmets and costume parts or "greeblies".
Weapons
We have a small selection of edged weapons and realistic imitation firearms available in-house and we can source additional, real-world modern, war era and historic replica firearms, bows, spears and edged weapons.
We are able to design and manufacture sci-fi or fantasy weapon props and produce various realistic, dummy or stunt firearms and edged weapons.
We can work with local authorities and Police in order to ensure that your production runs smoothly and more importantly; operates on the right side of the law.
Vehicles
We have a number of contacts that can provide and source vehicles and machinery for any production, big and small, old and new, exotic and interesting.
