The Larkins

At 3studio, we were delighted to be part of the post-production process for The Larkins, ITV’s charming comedy-drama based on H.E. Bates’ beloved novel The Darling Buds of May. Set in the idyllic countryside of 1950s Kent, the series captures the warmth, humour, and heart of the Larkin family as they navigate life’s ups and downs with a generous dose of love and laughter.

Starring Bradley Walsh as the ever-cheerful “Pop” Larkin and Joanna Scanlan as the nurturing “Ma” Larkin, the series follows their bustling family of six children, including eldest daughter Mariette—played by Sabrina Bartlett in Series 1 and Joelle Rae in Series 2. Alongside them is Tok Stephen as Cedric “Charley” Charlton, the straight-laced accountant who finds himself drawn into the lively Larkin way of life.

Our work on The Larkins involved recording ADR (Automated Dialogue Replacement), ensuring that the show’s dialogue remained crisp and natural, preserving the lighthearted and nostalgic tone that makes the series so enjoyable. From bustling family gatherings to heartfelt moments and comedic exchanges, ADR played an essential role in bringing the vibrant characters and picturesque rural setting to life.

Working on a series that celebrates community, family, and the joy of the simple life has been a pleasure, and we’re proud to have contributed to its production. If you haven’t yet experienced the warmth and humour of The Larkins, catch it on ITV - it’s the perfect feel-good escape to the English countryside!
